What started out as a small community radio station, the NCU Media Group dates back to the late 1990’s, when the then West Indies College acquired a community radio broadcast license.
The station started operating as WIC Radio 88.3 FM in 1999, and served the campus and a small portion of the College community.
That year, the College received University status, becoming Northern Caribbean University. This small media entity was also expected to be the training ground for Mass Communication students as the institution sought to expand that media programme.
The Broadcasting Commission approved the request for an all-island broadcasting license in March of 2009, welcoming the birth of NCU FM.
NCU TV went on air with Wilson’s Cable in June 2005 and island wide on the FLOW network channel 188 on a 24-hour basis in December of 2009.
On November 25, 2010, NCU FM opened its doors to the wider Jamaica and became a commercial radio station. NCU FM has been ranked as one of Jamaica’s fastest growing radio stations and has consistently positioned itself amongst the top ten radio stations islandwide.
2014 was another important milestone as the NCU Media Group embarked on a rebranding campaign, becoming Jamaica’s first and only education and wellness station.
We are the first and only Education and Wellness station in Jamaica that provides 24-hour education and wellness content. We are also one of the very few stations island-wide that offer an all inclusive package of Radio, TV and Social Media.
